New Man’s Karate trains students to learn true martial arts, measurable and tangible skills that will stick with you for the rest of your life. From day one, you will learn simple yet profoundly powerful self defense skills.
We have 14 ranks between White Belt and Black Belt that each student must test for. During each test the student receives a full written evaluation on all the test material. Each test is accumulative and builds on the last; when you test for Black Belt, you still must show you are able to accomplish everything from the White Belt forward. By this time, you will have trained your body and mind to become a “New Man” in habits, in the way you think, and in the way you move – especially under pressure.
We remind our students constantly of the popular phrase, “Repetition is the mother of all learning”. There is no other way to gain deeply embedded skills but through both time and pressure. This is one of many things that set us apart as a martial art – we are not some fly-by-night studio that promises “a Black Belt in two or three years”, NO! We have a tried and true preset method of progression through a well thought-out, traditional approach to training that will realistically take an average of 7-10 years for someone to reach the Black Belt depending on the time and commitment level of the individual.
There is not just a large quantity of material the student learns, but a quality the students, must attain as they are refined and gain rank through intense training. It is not an easy road, but we refuse to become a “belt factory”, giving out belts every time we want to keep a student around. Rank must be earned as a meritorious endeavor, not a token of thanks for buying into some (very expensive) “Black Belt Club”, that seems to be the trend of many schools today. We are not against other styles and ways of training; we just prefer to stay honest with ourselves and our roots.
This is the Black Belt Excellence that we strive for.
